Three Tips For Running A Mother's Day Social Media Campaign

Every year, millions of people worldwide celebrate Mother's Day with their loved ones. People give gifts, go out to restaurants, and travel home to say "thank you!" to their moms. Likewise, Mother's Day is a big day on social media too—Mother's Day 2017 was the most discussed topic on Facebook year-over-year.

This year, profit off the hype and run a Mother's Day social media campaign. To give you a head-start, we'll give you three tips you can use to increase social media engagement on Mother's Day in this article.

1. Share a Mother's Day Story

Make Mother's Day personal and have your employees or customers share stories about their moms. These types of posts work especially well on Instagram as you can showcase a photo of the person's Mom and have a meaningful quote or short story in the caption. These stories can be everything from fun childhood memories to powerful stories of courage.

In 2014, Google published a Mother's Day video for Google Glass. The video shows a man traveling across the world to surprise his mother on Mother's Day. He gives his mom a gift upon arrival: news of his wife's pregnancy. This story is inspiring, and in turn is easily sharable. The video received over 2 million views on YouTube and a ton of buzz on social media.

2. Mother's Day giveaways

Giveaways are a favorite for social media users—after all, who doesn't love free stuff!? They let you create buzz around your product and give back to your social following at the same time. One way to do this is by requiring users to Tweet or post a specific Mother's Day hashtag and tag your brand to enter.

Give your giveaway a Mother's Day twist and require entrants to post a selfie with their mother or other family members. Pandora UK did this in 2016 with its #JustLikeMum campaign. Followers had to post the hashtag along with a family selfie to be entered for a Pandora shopping spree, increasing Pandora's reach at the same time.

3. Influencer marketing

Embrace Influencer Marketing On Mothers Day

Embrace influencer marketing and partner with a mommy blogger or other parenting influencer this Mother's Day. The influencer may feature your products in posts leading up to the holiday to increase your reach. And since your influencer knows parenting best, some of the trust your influencer's followers have in them will rub off on your brand too!
