Creating a new Facebook Event
First thing's first: let's create your event.
Before you do this, make sure you have your event fully ideated. While you can edit event details after the fact, it's important to have the right day, time, and details ready when you create your event.
This ensures that your audience won't get confused on when your event is, and won't get annoyed with constant date or location changes.
Once all is set, follow our guide to creating a new Facebook Event.
- Navigate to the Facebook Events page and click the Create Event button at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
- Then, select Create Public Event from the drop-down menu to make a public, not-invite-only event.
- Now, at the upper right-hand corner of the screen select your brand's Facebook page. This will assign the event to that account, and ensure that you can properly promote it.
- Then, fill out all of the info on the screen. Here's a quick overview of each, broken down by category:
Event photo or video: here, upload your cover photo for the event. This will also show in-feed as well as in the Recommended Events page.
The image should be 1920px wide by 1080px tall.
- Event name: enter the name of the event here.
- Location: put the exact address of your event here—try and be as specific as possible.
- Frequency: you can choose how often the event happens if it's reoccurring. Leave this blank if it's a one-off event.
- Starts/Ends: put the start and end times of your event here.
- Category: put the category of your event here, this will help people find it.
- Description: put your event's description here. This will show in your event's bio box.
- Schedule: have multiple acts or speakers? Put them here.
- Keywords: add keywords that are related to your event here. Like category, these will affect how people find your posts, so be sure to use good keywords.
- Kid friendly: if your event is kid friendly, check this box.
- Ticket URL: selling tickets for your event? Put the link to buy them here, and the link will be added to your event's info box.
- Co-hosts: hosting with another brand? Tag it here.
- Posting: select who can post to the event's page.
- Guest list: check this box if you want your guest list to be displayed publicly. We recommend this so people can see if their friends, colleagues, or family are also attending.
And you're set!
Click the blue create button at the bottom-right of the screen. Then, the event will be created and everything will be set! Now, let's talk promotion...
Now, promote it
Promoting your Facebook Event is crucial—but in all honesty, it isn't that hard!
Start by sharing your event to your Facebook pages, groups, and across other social networks. Post about them frequently, and make sure to ramp up your efforts as the day of your event gets closer.
Further, make sure to keep your event attendees updated. Post to your event frequently with updates so attendees know that the event is still on. You can even post pre-reading material from your blog—an awesome place to cross-promote.
Further, you can run Facebook ads for your event. These are run the same as other Facebook ads, but take special care to target the right locations, interests, and demographics.
