2. MeetEdgar — basic social media scheduling with no analytics

MeetEdgar is a super basic social media scheduling application.

The application supports scheduling posts to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram (via the "smartphone workaround").

When you schedule posts in MeetEdgar, you assign it a category. Then, its self-scheduling content calendar that sorts posts by assigned category, ensuring that categories are mixed for an interesting social feed.

But beyond that, MeetEdgar's feature set is limited. It doesn't offer reporting tools, scheduling to Instagram is cumbersome, and you can't create separate employee accounts.

3. Buffer — solid scheduling tools for social media

Buffer is a decent social media management tool

Buffer is one of the world's most well-known social media managers. You can schedule content to the "big five" social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest), but it lacks support for more obscure networks.

Further, Buffer doesn't have an official reporting tool (yet). Current Buffer users can sign up for early access to Buffer Analyze—but since there's few publicly available details, it's tough to determine how well these will work into your workflow.

So long story short: Buffer can be a good option, but it's hard to grow into new networks and provide solid reports to your clients and stakeholders.

4. ViralTag — a visual-first scheduler

ViralTag takes a unique, visual-first approach to social media scheduling. For example, you can drag it around the visual calendar to move or change times and edit photos using the tool's built-in image editor.

But there's one big downfall with ViralTag: no direct Instagram scheduling. You can schedule posts in the ViralTag tool, but you'll need to finalize all Instagram images and videos through the ViralTag mobile app.

This can be a huge drag on your workflow, especially considering Instagram is becoming more and more important to businesses of all size.

5. Loomly — a basic scheduler

Loomly is an interesting new player in the social media management game.

It has everything you'd expect from a social media scheduling tool—scheduling, posting, analytics. It even has a few neat features like a content calendar creator, a nifty post idea generator, and fully customizable post previews. 

Unfortunately though, Loomly lacks support for Google My Business (and other important networks) and doesn't have a social search tool.

Finally, we've found its posting workflow to be bit cumbersome. Its editor opens full-window, making it hard to reference other messages and quickly add images, etc.

6. HootSuite — lots of supported networks

HootSuite is one of the most well-known social media scheduling apps in the industry.

The tool can schedule content to 35 different social networks, and even has some interesting collaboration and reporting features.

For example, you can automatically schedule content from RSS feeds and create content libraries that you can pull from at a later time.

Unfortunately though, there's no way to automate your social media scheduling (by way evergreen content) and its menus are difficult to navigate, so it can be difficult to onboard new team members.

7. Sprout Social — an enterprise solution for social scheduling

Sprout Social is a corporate social media scheduling tool aimed at large agencies and big brands.

Sprout has a nice content calendar and an intuitive social inbox feature that makes scheduling content and responding to customer inquiries easy.

Additionally, its innovative RSS feed scheduler means that you can share blog content automatically—great for publications and anyone with a company blog.

But beware: Sprout Social app isn't perfect. It's the most expensive social media management tool in our price comparison article and lacks support for any smaller social networks.

In fact, the app starts at $99 per user, meaning it's out of reach for smaller firms and brands that are just starting out.

8. Sendible — post from its content library

Sendible is an agency-focused social media scheduling and analytics tool.

Like ViralTag, the tool takes a visual approach to social media scheduling with its social media calendar and RSS feed integration for reposting blog content. It also has an intuitive social inbox that you can use to directly respond to @replies and private messages.

On the reporting side, Sendible has a reporting suite but it gives you a limited number of reports monthly. This make it it tough to have regular client meetings if you have multiple clients—just something to keep in mind as you grow.

9. Agorapulse — covers the basics

Agorapulse is a collaboration-focused social media scheduling tool. You can schedule posts to major social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn) and invite your team members to collaborate on posts and respond to customer inquiries.

Additionally—like many of the apps on this list—you can track your social media progress in Agorapulse. Some of its unique reports include hashtag monitoring and content reports.

Note that the pricing structure can be a barrier to entry for many firm. In fact, its lowest-end plan is $39 per month and includes just 3 social media profiles, and you'll need to buy up from there.

10. EveryPost — content curation comes first

EveryPost is a basic social media scheduler

EveryPost is a scheduling tool with support for just three networks: Twitter, Facebook, and Google+. Unfortunately, this means no LinkedIn, Instagram, or Google My Business.

You can schedule in-house content from the dashboard, or use its mobile app and awesome browser extension to update your social media accounts on-the-go.

Note that EveryPost doesn't have analytics or reporting features either. This means it's not possible to view how your content's performing or other key metrics, so you'll need another app to  prove results to your clients.
